Identity Verification
Identity verification is the core of UnaFonte. Every profile must pass gov ID verification before it goes live — no free profiles, no exceptions. This is what makes UnaFonte's promise meaningful: if it's on UnaFonte, a real human is behind it.
How It Works
UnaFonte uses Stripe Identity for verification. Stripe Identity is the same service used by major financial apps and gig economy platforms. It performs:
- Document check — Verifies your ID is authentic and unaltered
- Selfie match — Compares a live selfie to your ID photo
- Liveness check — Confirms you're a real person, not a photo or video
The Verification Flow
- Start verification — Click "Verify Identity" on your dashboard after paying the $3 fee
- Take ID photos — Front and back of your government-issued ID
- Selfie check — A quick live selfie with head movement for liveness
- Review period — Usually instant, sometimes up to a few minutes
- Profile goes live — Your profile is automatically published once verified
Use good lighting
Verified Name Display
When verification succeeds, UnaFonte stores your legal first name, last name, and country code. You control exactly how this appears on your public profile through the Name Display Preference setting in Dashboard → Settings → Identity.
| Preference | Display | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Full Name | First + Last | Daniel Washington |
| First + Last Initial (default) | First + Initial | Daniel W. |
| First Only | First name only | Daniel |
| Hidden | No name shown | (just "Gov ID Verified") |
Privacy by design
What If Verification Fails?
If verification fails, you can retry immediately at no extra cost. Common failure reasons:
- ID photo is blurry, cropped, or at an angle
- Name or date of birth doesn't match across documents
- Selfie lighting is too dark or the face isn't centered
- ID has expired
